No, I think I am a bit of a bow snob. I have never been fond of cross bows. Around here they have crossbow seasons running consecutive with bow seasons. It brings the slobs, who couldn't take the time to learn archery, into the woods.
The reason they banned crossbows for hunting here is very similar. They were allowed in the bow zones, which usually have lots of game that is not too spooked by people, and there is really not much sport to using them, as they are so accurate at close range. That, and it takes very little practice to be able to use one too.
CHET, nice family rant.

My county considers discharging a pellet gun the same as a firearm

My Ruger .22is about 3 times quieter than my RWS model 36 pellet gun. The squirrels around the house like ME so I don't fight with them.
It would be illegal here, just that even the higher powered pellet guns are quieter then most .22's, at least the ones I have.
Squirrels here are a real pest and out of control. Rarely do you see a native squirrel, the imported ones have taken over, big time. I would be there are more squirrels living in Calgary, then people, especially in the established neighbourhoods.
