Rodeos are better than weddings. Those who are going to get hurt know it right away.

(borrowed that from myself)

Don't know what that has to do with anything, but I'm taking a break from paying bills, and it was the only thing I could think of to contribute.

:lol:Wonderful

how'd you get by with your fans today Deb? We're warm this evening, lot of radiant heat from the roof as the air is cool enough. I put Eli to bed a little bit ago and needed the AC to get the room good for sleeping.

What is sad is all the stations covering MJ's death like top news, a week later. There are good, noble people, and soldiers dying for their country and we get non stop coverage of a musical child molester and all the hate mongers like Sharpton. Bury the freak, declare the world a little safer, and put on a record if one misses the music. We have saved all he had to offer, in recordings.

*raises glass to zane*

Maybe I'm just particularly crabby this morning because I came across THIS post on another board and the OP's misspelling of "copyright" just rubbed me the wrong way. I'm seeing an ever increasing amount of poor grammar and spelling across the internet and it makes me fear for the educational system in this country.

Try grading some of my quizzes....

short5 wrote in post #8233840 (external link)
Dude, stop reading. If that has your man panties in a bunch you are going to have a heart attack in short order. I stopped looking around too much myself having realized I am not cut out for interacting with the masses.

Lol....true that. You can barely tolerate me.

DoodleBunz wrote in post #8233877 (external link)
I think you need to go with Zane to brush a horse, or hug a Heather. ;) But yes, I don't expect much out of the education system. Thankfully my family and I are able (and willing) to help the kids out as much as we can, so that THEY learn the importance of spelling and decent grammar. I correct the sitter, too....but she laughs cuz her Mom does the same to her when she's at home.

Things like that degenerate spelling as well dear. The correct way to abbreviate because is 'cause. ;)

I realize your wife is a teacher and is doing the best she can, but the educational system has to take some of the blame. The system of "social promotion" has to be abolished. Promoting a child to the next grade when they are not ready because otherwise it will damage his self-esteem, does nothing to help the child.

I don't know about where you live, but in California every time substantive educational reform is proposed, it is routinely opposed by the teacher's union. They see any reform as a threat to the status quo and their ability to manipulate the politicians.

See, where I work we are being opposed by the board.

Last year we fought to get the graduation requirements raised from 24 credits to 25. 24 credits means that a kid can pass all their classes their first three years of school and fail their entire senior year and still graduate (assuming that they pass their required classes). So, they can fail 1/4 of their classes and still graduate.

short5 wrote in post #8234301 (external link)
I agree on the spell checker and use it or you would have little idea what I mean:lol:. I disagree on the whole parents fault thing. My parents very much wanted me to do well in school and in addition to working with me they paid tutors, and put me in programs. Spelling is just not my thing. Not my parents fault. I always tested very high in reading and comprehension, I just don't spell well.

English has something like 40 sounds and 1200 ways to write those sounds.

No wonder people have trouble spelling.

I've actually read a study where they showed the rates of dyslexia in other, more phonetic languages, to be WAY below those of English.

short5 wrote in post #8234395 (external link)
That^^^ Public education, and society in general, seem to be catering to the lowest denominator in the name of political correctness. It seems like they go out of their way to make education easier so kids won't fail which might hurt their self esteem. They also seem do whatever they can to pass kids so they can make it looks like the system is working. "look everyone gets good grades". My teachers went on strike in D.C., during the middle of the year, when I was in 5th grade  Yeah I don't blame my parents for not being able to pick up where the schools failed.

I'm a hard ass with my students. I expect them to put forth effort and do work on their own outside of class. They don't like me so much.

Terri called and talked me down.

And I had a beer and a crunchy over-microwaved burrito for my first food of the day at 3:30.

I feel better.

It's been a really really really crappy day....

Happy thoughts to Jenn!

Well so far I am impressed, the place I ordered from had the kit listed for more money than buying the lens and body separate, so I got each individual item. When I checked the site today to see how my order was progressing I saw it listed for $95.00 less than what I paid. I sent an email and got an immediate response stating of course I could get the better pricing on the kit and I will be refunded my money tomorrow.

Cool!

I use a little Spanish smoked paprika (Pimenton de la Vera) which adds a smoky flavor to the tacos.
