FWIW, I had the most trouble when shooting vertically with the 70-200/2.8. That combination seemed to put the most force on the grip to pull the grip contacts away from the camera.

I've had the 20D and grip since the first week they were available and I've never had one single issue with either the camera or the grip. The serial numbers are for 20Ds which have a problem with the serial number rubbing off. It's totally unrelated to the battery-life problem with the battery grip. If you get a premature low battery indication when using the grip, you have an affected grip. The grip S/N is on the box. Jon

The connection feels more solid/stable, but I won't be able to put it through its paces until tomorrow to be sure the problem is resolved.
