And I thought my name was bad enough. My name? My first name is "René." As my mother always said (every time I complained), it's a beautiful French name.

I feel your pain René, as my birth name is Claude (and my middle name Christian).
I will add to the name thing as well (at the risk of giving the TF some juice on me). I was born in Québec, and my name, in French, is spelled "Alexandre" with the 'r' before the 'e'. In English it is simply pronounced "Alexander" (or at least, that is what I ask English speakers to call me by - that or just "Alex" - since most cannot produce the French pronunciation correctly). Since moving to California, out of people who meet me for the first time I have gotten and continue to get a good dosage of "alek-san-dreh" (Spanglish), "alexandra", and questions about whether I misspelled my name and/or how to pronounce my name. Usually I have to resort to the "theater" (American) / "theatre" (British and Canadian English) example for people to get it that in English, my name is pronounced the same as the English name Alexander.
I actually like my name as is, though. I would not want to change it to Alexander. If anything, my name helps strike up conversation, especially with girls who become interested when they learn that I speak French fluently.

not far from where I live (we all speak french around here) 3 kids got served: 2 guys and a girl
first guy: "Carburateur" (Carburator, in english)
the girl: "Hirondelle" (Swallow, the bird)
and the second guy was: "Orignal" I think (Moose, in english)

a friend of mine knew them
Did they really name their kids with those names?? That is horrible!
