While a Full Frame body would be nice I'm not convinced that you would be gaining anything especially over your 7D. As a comparison KEH lists 5Dmark I 's at $1300 to $1420.

Alright, peeps. I need some advice.

Do you need two bodies? If so, the 5D makes more sense than the 30D to go with your 7D. If money wasn't tight, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Technically the 7D is my husband's...he's only let me use it once. :(

I KNOW! That's why it's killing me to make this decision!

I don't need 2 bodies, which is why I'd sell the 30D (the 7D belongs to my husband). If I end up having a wedding (at this point, I don't have one until June 2010), my husband would second shoot with the 7D, so I would still have a backup if I needed it.

Well, if the 5D has low actuations and is in good shape you could always sell it and get your money back (or most of it). Then you could join us in the 5D thread. :)

Chrissy, remember in s few months camera bodies will still be available, and the 7D will probably come down in price (an option which would give you and your husband identical bodies), unless the dollar does continue to drop like a rock in value and with gold at over $1200/oz that is possible. Yes it is a hard decision and it is always easier to spend other peoples money.

Myself I want a 7D but just cant justify spending the money.

Geno the horribly disfigured, has brought up an interesting option, You could turn the 5D into cash quickly on the sell threads.

Hmm.. a difficult decision Chrissy. Another way to look at it could be that when the bambino comes along you may not have the extra cash or the inclination to get yourself a 5D. You could, as someone already said, buy it, try it sell it on if it doesn't suit.
But then it is older technology. If the full frame thing isn't totally essential look at all the cool stuff the cheaper 50d has (please guys, lets not get into a tech rant. I love my 5D) a huge upgrade from your 30d.

Robert.

Personally, I'd buy the 5D. To be blunt, that's one hell of a camera for $1100.

And if you think money is tight now, just wait till the baby comes. Diapers alone will kill a budget, much less food, clothes, pediatrician visits, etc.

Besides, you and your husband would then have primo cameras. Not that there's anything wrong with a 30D. That's what we use, and are quite pleased. But, a 30D is no 5D any way you slice it.

Do you know where to buy poultrygeists? At the back to ghoul sales. What do the undead use to fix the ice at the hockey game? Zombienis and Zamboneys. You know, when there is a face off! Image seeing such a spectre! I'd have written more cemetery jokes, but things are just to grave. I'm coffin too hard to plot out anymore jokes. At least I have the best of both worlds.

Chrissy, I say go for it!

Chrissy, I keep reading the pros and cons. The devils on both my shoulders keep arguing too. :D

The financial professional in me says NO, save for the baby's college.
The greedy brat in me says NO, let ME buy it.
The devil in me that likes to egg people on says YES, but it. You shoot weddings, professionally, it's a tool. You need it.

Shooting off two frames from a 5D was all it took to hook me on getting a Canon. I ended up with the 40D though....which is still more camera than I need!

Helpful, eh? LOL
