Yet Another Lens Question - Germany

Taking a family vacation to Germany in August. Mostly big city stuff like Berlin and Munich, but a few country side-trips as well. On trips like these I typically avoid too many landmark "postcard" shots, and instead concentrate on creating family memories.

My lenses are listed in my signature, and I would appreciate opinions on which one(s) to bring. I would prefer not to have to carry them all. :) I have an external flash as well, but I seldom use it.

Thanks,
Roger

Will you be traveling by car? If so, perhaps bring all your lenses. You can leave 1 or 2 behind in hotel or car for light traveling during the day. That way you still have all to choose from.

I would rather be burdened with carrying 1 extra lens or body than not having either when needed. That's just me, however.

Just looking at your list, and having been to Europe/Germany, I would suggest leaving the 70-210 and taking the others, based on what you stated for the types of pictures.

Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback.

I would like to take them all, but being a dad means accepting the fact that I will be carrying everyone else's stuff in addition to my own. ;^) If something has to go, leaving behind the 70-210 makes sense. Will I really need both the 85 f/1.8 and the 50 f/1.8? Granted, the 50 weighs next to nothing, but I was thinking that I would need only one F/1.8 lens for low light (aka indoors) shooting.

There could be times when the 85 is too much and the 50 would let you get a wider angle shot. Like when everyone is sitting at a table in a restaurant or hofbrau haus.

But if you do take the 17-85 then maybe the 50 is, in fact, extra.

Good luck.
