I'm going to buy a 40d. So I also need an CF card but i dont know which. So i googled a bit and found this test: http://www.robgalbraith.com …ti_page.asp?cid=6007-9257 (external link)
My question is am i really going to notice the diffrence between a SanDisk Extreme Ducati 4GB and an SanDisk Extreme III 30MB/s Edition 4GB? Is my buffer going to get full quicker?

And my second question is: I have an expresscard 54 slot in my laptop. is this able to read those CF cards?

I don't think the difference is big.

And even if you notice something that will be only doing prolonged blast.

Unless you fill the buffer, you won't notice, but IIRC SanDisk has discontinued the Ducati; the Extreme IV is about the same speed now. You'll need to get a CF reader for your ExpressCard slot. But either an ExpressCard 34 or ExpressCard 54 adapter will work.

If you don't shoot at 6fps to the point you fill the buffer constantly, you won't notice any difference between the slowest and fastest card made.

BUT, get the fastest card you can afford.

The Sandisk Extreme III 16GB is the sweet spot at the moment. I got a couple of those for £59.99 each.

I've been using Kingston CF cards in 4, 8 and 16 gb configuratons and I have not had any issues with any of them. I shoot sports so thousands upon thousands of pics - download them to the PC via a card reader, then reformat the card in the camera and go again.

The camera doesn't mean anything either. I've used them in a 20D, 30D, 40D and now 1D MK III.

Good luck.
Mike

Thank you all for your comments! But now i also saw the Lexar CompactFlash Professional 233x 4GB. How does this card compare to the Sandisk CompactFlash Extreme III 4GB and the Sandisk CompactFlash Extreme IV 4 GB?

Get the Extreme III. They work excellent with the 40D!
