During our recent trip to Lilac House I ran across this wisteria. It has been Photoshopped. I am starting to enjoy playing with Photoshop almost as much as shooting pictures. I would appreciate any comments or suggestions. Always looking to improve...

Data:Kit lens, ISO 200, Av f5.6, Tv 1/50, 51mm

What would it look like in B&W? It is an interesting subject, but something isn't quite right. Perhaps there is not enough contrast between the subject and the background? Or there is too much green (subject and border)?

I like it, but the tree needs to stand out more.

Boarder colour needs changing. This is a cool shot and would also like to see it in b+w.

Thanks for the suggestions. The more I look at this the more I see what you mean. I've tried B&W and didn't like it at all. Here is a compromise that I like better than the original.

You are correct about the border. The more I looked at the original the worse it looked. I finally changed the original. Just couldn't stand it any longer.

Thanks.

It finally hit me -- there is more contrast in the background than there is in the rest of the image, which is why my eyes can't rest on the subject. Can you PS that a bit?

I can try. I do find the second post much more interesting though...

I like the original, color photo, especially because of the contrast between the neutral background and green stems. The background looks like frosted glass. Very nice!

They are both nice, but I like the first since there is more separation of the subject and background. In both there is a nice use of DOF control, but the lack of color difference in the second makes the subject a little less conspicuous. Pics like this should be required viewing for newbies that think you can't take a decent pic with the kit lens. I'm not sure you recreate this shot with any other lens. Nice job.

Thanks for all the comments. They are appreciated. After reading the suggestion for B&W I though that might really work here. I see the problems with it now...color works.
