Hi 1st post on this forum and 1st studio shoot,model is my daughter and I'm looking for advice on how to improve these shots, in studio or PP, will be doing another shoot soon for prints so any advice good or bad

Jun 07, 2009 18:52 | #2 Not too shabby for a first timer. Most newbie photographers usually do what you have done in these images, namely flat lighting and static poses. Some people can handle reasonably flat lighting but few can handle static poses. Straight up and down is anathema in portrait lighting. LEAN that girl, tilt her head, twist that torso. She WILL feel strange. She will look good.

If both the main light and the fill light are of equal power, the lighting will be flat. The main light is usually about twice as bright as the fill light is, so you will have shadows. Shadows add a 3-D look to the image.
