Air show at Old Warden

A few from today, apart from some cropping no p&p. I would assume a few people from here were down there. Lots of white lenses with a few Nikon users thrown in.

Especially on the first series i see many shot underexposed.

In the second i add the light and sharp.

Metering was a problem on the day. It was cloudy, continually changing and leaving the camera to its own devices whether it be Av or Tv was less successful. I will have a play with elements and see what I can do. Fortunately all shot in raw so scope for a play.

I was a bit lazy and should have done a bit of pp'ing prior to posting but too keen to get them up as overall quite pleased with them. First airshow with my 40d and 100-400.

Thanks, it was reading your advise on another thread that made me shoot in manual, I did try a couple of shots in Av and Tv but manual by far gave me the most consistent results. Admittedly there is still room for improvement but with the ones I took I have enough detail in the sky and planes to make them worth PP'ing.
I have another air show at the end of the month so they should be better!!??

How slow you have to go on shutter speed to blur a two tip prop? Looks like you got a little on some. Sorry no EXIF viewer at work.

From memory it as was around 300 - 400 depending on the lighting. I did not get any blur on #5 because they had a jet which I increased the shutter speed for and forgot to decrease it which I am annoyed at as I did not get a chance to photograph them together again.

For the second time of trying (SORRY no pictures or links first time)
Shuttleworth is just few miles away for me so it was a good opportunity for
my first attempt at aircraft, also the first outing for the Canon 100-400 lens.
My first impressions of the lens are, if YOU get it right the lens will deliver some stunning shots.
As I said this was my first attempt and the keeper % was, to say the least, poor.
So just a few of the better ones. ( comments please)

Great shots, I really like the hurricane and the last one. I don't know what you upgraded from, my previous lens was a 18-200 and the extra bit of reach with the 100-400 really makes a difference.
It was just a shame they did not fly the really old stuff

Just a bit windy for the rotory engine planes and the realy old stuff.
Will have to wait till RAF Waddington(5-6th July) for my next attempt.
