Since there are quite a few photos being posted of cats, I figure I should join in the fun and post one...

All these cats, I'll say again in these forums, I want a cat too. I'm just scared someone might eat it!

And nice shot.

Sixshot,

The Chinese people I know (Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei) wouldn't think about eating a cat - it's actually a major taboo.
As cats have nine lives, they would come back in their next life and get even with you.

So to them it's a big no-no to kill a cat - if you accidentally kill one with the car, you immediately go to the temple and pray for it.

Maybe you ask your neighbours if it safe at your place as well

Geneman, the photo is nice:D
Just don't use flash ... your wife won't be too happy if Kitty is frightened and claws into her bare shoulder (ouch).

Best regards,
Andy

I know in most Chinese cities cats are safe, but down in Guangzhou anything goes. It is known for its range of cuisine and being more adventurous than most when it comes to dinner. But then up north you can find monkey brains on the menu. I have my fish, safe in their tank and that will do me for now.

My wife immigrated from China when she was quite young, but went back to study there for 6 months in college. She says that she thinks that restaurants serving cat is probably an "urban myth".

Well some side street restaurants, or food stalls definately have it, along with anything else imaginable. I am not saying it is common, but it is here in places. Chickens feet are very popular!

Hmmmm.... love that chicken feet! That's one of U.S.A.'s biggest exports to China... no one wants them here, and they can't get enough of them there. Yeah, just be careful when eating at those small stands & side street restaurants, they aren't always the cleanest when it comes to handwashing, dishwashing... but they make the best cat too :p

From talking about your photo to the eating habits in China!!

Went travelling, liked China and stayed kinda by accident. Not planning on moving anytime soon either. I teach, write and have a ton of time to take photos. Not bad really.

Interesting... I'm A.B.C., my first visit to Hong Kong/China was in 1998, an eye opening experience. My wife still has relatives there, and we plan on visiting again, maybe just after the Olympics.

Yeah... he's got his staff & we're pretty efficient at meeting his needs. He's been my best subject, I've taken so many photos of him... he's actually used to the attention. I can tell when he's not in the mood for a photography shoot... he gets this look in is eyes, that's when I know... no good photos of him today.
