The 2009 Hot Rod Power Tour sponsored by Hot Rod Magazine kicked off in Madison, Wisconsin yesterday. Today the tour stopped in Racine, WI on their way to South Bend, Indiana. The organizers said there would be 3,500 cars but in my estimation there were many more; traffic stretched for miles on end.

It was unseasonably cool all weekend so I wasn't sure I'd go but this afternoon was overcast so I figured the light would be perfect for shooting. There were thousands of spectators so it was hard to get shots without people in them.

Here are a couple of shots with a 5D and 17-40mm lens. I'm no car guy but I think the second car is a Shelby...someone is sure to correct me.

Good shots. The "Shelby" image, or whatever, isn't coming up.

Nice shots, the cars seem to really stand out for me.

Nice shots I would loved to have gone. But I was in Dallas for a wedding. I have some shots from '07 when the tour stopped. A lot of pride the owners have in these cars

Are you in Racine? It was quite an event... I didn't think it was going to be that large but I ended up walking much more than I had in several years.

Nice shots! I love the old truck. That would be a great HDR shot, and great for a grunge location shoot. I'm in Racine, too.

Thanks.

If I had really thought it through I would have shot multiple exposure for an HDR. Since I shot in RAW I can still develop different exposures and do a "pseudo HDR" but it wouldn't be the same as the real thing.

I do remember you're in Racine; we spoke about two summers ago in one of the Milwaukee meetup threads. Are you involved in this? http://www.flickr.com/groups/creamcitymilwaukee/ (external link)
