Rainbow: now you see it, now you don't

Some people may not realize that rainbows are about 100 percent polarized, as shown in these images. The first is with the polarizer turned for maximum brightness of the rainbow. The second shows what is left when the polarizer is turned 90 degrees. Try this with your polaroid sunglasses on.

This is exactly why I use a polarizer when a rainbow is present. Turned to the right angle, it actually intensifies the colors because a rainbow is 100% reflected light.
