Canon T1i kit decision

I am considering buying the Canon T1i kit with the IS lens. However I already have the 35-80mm 1:4-5.6 II lens (non IS) and a 70-300mm4-5.6 IS USM lens. I was wondering if I would be better advised to get the body only on theT1i and forego the IS and therefore save the $100.00. I am just an amateur hobbyist. Opinions?

Well, You're lacking a truly wide angle lens right now. I don't know if you'd use it or not, I do. If you do, the 18-55 is isn't that bad of a lens especially at that price. I like mine and am happy and comparing it to the other lenses in that focal range, it's a bargain.

What SpiltPickle said. 35 isn't all that wide on T1i. For ~$100 the 18-55 IS kit lens is a really good deal.

That 35-80 is not a good lens, honestly, and a terrible focal length on a t1i. Get the kit with the 18-55 IS for sure. The 70-300 IS is a pretty great lens and you probably want to keep that one around. If money is a big concern, you could sell the 70-300 IS and buy a 55-250 IS. That would net you the $100-150 to cover the cost of the 18-55 IS.

Another vote here for getting the kit lens. The price difference isn't that much, and you could always sell it or another lens to make up the price difference.

Re: the kit lens, I had already ordered the 18-200 when I purchased the XSi, and I purchased it with the kit lens (focally redundant because of the 18-200) anyway.

Honestly, I almost never put it on in serious "oh my God I have to get this shot" situations. But on the other hand, when I want something light and easy, it's great. It's the only lens that I don't feel like I need to protect like a child, so if I'm going to take the camera out drinking with me (it prefers Dos Equis) or just want to throw on something quick to take some test shots (or let a friend take some shots...) I love having something that I didn't pay an arm and a leg for.

And honestly, the IQ is great.

Oh, and, yeah, you're going to want something wider than 35. You'll want an UWA sooner or later... but that's a question for another thread :D

+1 on getting the kit lens...it produces great IQ and it's much wider at the 18mm vs the 35mm

Definitely get the kit lens. It's great value for it's price, and look at it this way: when friends come over to party, would you rather have them touching your cheap kit lens, or your more exotic glass?

The 35-80s are selling on ebay for over $50. You might consider posting yours.

I'd get the kit lens unless you have another lens in mind for a general purpose use. The 35-80mm lens won't be wide enough on the cropped sensor.
