RawShooter's TIFF?

I'm experimenting with RawShooter Essentials 1.1.2.14 and G6 files.

After corrections, I save the RSE image as TIFF and then open it in PS5, PSP8.1, Irfanview3.97 and ThumbsPlus - always at 100%. So I have the 5 images in direct comparison at a single click. All 4 apps show an identical image, but this is distinctly different from RSE. The RSE image is color wise crisp and fresh, definitely sharp and full of details, while the others are unsatisfactory, flat and dull in comparison. This is the same whether saved with 8 or 16 bit and in any RGB working space RSE offers, or even saved as JPEG at maximum quality, but always with sharpening applied.

RSE Preferences shows "Using monitor profile: La Cie BlueEye Profile [Gamma 2.2 color". I don't know where this comes from, since Display/Properties/Set​tings/Advanced/ColorMa​nagement/Profile shows "as4821", corresponding to the Iiyama LCD I'm looking at (XPH-SP2).

RSE user guide and readme.txt don't say anything related. It most likely has nothing to do with the input file, while the Canon G6 is explicitely listed as supported.

Any ideas?

RSE applies sharpening in the preview, which maybe isn't applied in the final converted image. Look at the "Batch convert" tab in RSE. Do you have "Apply sharpening" checked or unchecked?

What output colour space are you using? At least PSP 8.1 and Irfanview are not colour managed applications (don't know about ThumbsPlus), so if you're using a wide gamut output colour space such as Adobe RGB, images in those applications will look wrong.

Try using sRGB as the output colour space in RSE.

No, it is not a major bug in RSE.

The monitor profile is the colour profile specific for your monitor, which is assigned to the monitor in Windows. If you right-click on the desktop, choose Properties from the popup menu, then choose Settings (tab), Advanced (button), Colour management (tab), you'll see that the LaCie profile is assigned to your monitor. Did you calibrate and profile your monitor with a LaCie monitor calibration device?

The monitor profile and profiles for standard colour spaces such as sRGB and Adobe RGB are two different things. Have a look at the articles on http://www.computer-darkroom.com for an introduction to colour management and colour profiles and what it all means.

I've got my colour profiles all sorted fine.

However, I still see the same thing. Images that look great in RSE look a little muted and a little darker in Photoshop. Pure whites in RSE often come out as very light grays in PS.

Certainly something going on but cannot place what it is. Others have seen this too, there was a thread a while back about the same problem.

I use a fully calibrated system and by my eyes RSE does not have the same accuracy of display as other applications, such as Capture One or PS. I have stopped using it other than casually. At least with CO I get into PS, Q Image, BreezeBrowser and printer exactly the same image I see on CO's screen.

The Pixmantec forums are full of posts about the same issue with a wide range of cameras. RSE say everyone else is wrong and they are right. That attitude does not excatly fill me with confidence.
