That's interesting Jurgen - if you were never taught grammar, how were you "expected to know and use it properly"?

Interesting question.. If we used the incorrect grammar we were corrected.. I can't remember actually sitting down for a grammar lesson.. Maybe that day I was away surfing or pursuing some other non-academic activity :oops:

The question is,,have these people fallen through the education net or are they just lazy??

Combination of both. The bar isn't that high to graduate high school here in the states; if anything, in the last few years the bar is lowering. Plus, I know people that do take pride in their sloth and ignorance.

I would say the decline is not in academic standards, but discipline. Teachers and School officials are almost powerless against parents now, and many parents are the larger problem. As a teacher if you fail a kid, expect to be in a meeting with an irate parent, yelling at the you instead of the underacheiving child. Teachers used to demand respect, and now they are walked on. Also the profession does not pay enough to attract the best people for the task.

Anyway, back to photography. How many p&S flashes would it take to light up the moon?

I meant the backside.

Although I guess we could use that flash yogestee mentioned for that.

The backside is lit by the sun too. ;-)a I don't think all the P&S cameras on earth could add 1/3 of a stop to earthshine near a new moon.

Kinda make that famous Pink Floyd album irrelevant, doesn't it?

When it is facing the sun. During new moon, when the moon is between the sun and the earth, it is "full" on the back, and vice-versa. I'm defining "back" as the side we never see.

Full moon: (Sun) --------------->(Earth) (f.Moon.b)
The "front" is light.

New moon: (Sun) ---------------> (b.Moon.f) (Earth)
The "back" is light.

Lol, I was going to mention the Pink Floyd thing. There is a dark side at any given moment... but it constantly changes. There is no permanently dark side. The moon has day and night, it's just that it takes about a month to cycle.

Glad you could see through the crude diagram, I decided to make a much more technical and accurate version:
