Sorry, my friend, but in East L.A., they speak Spanglish. Their term, not mine, and they shop at "la marketa" instead of "el mercado.

To me, it don't make no li hace. (I lived in San Antonio.)

Back to the original post: One aspect of film photography that I miss is that the tourists around me who bought cameras without learning photography didn't know how much worse their images were than mine until a week later. Thus, they weren't stealing a chimp off the back of my camera and then asking advice.

And forward again to the sub-thread: The first law of Internet postings: Any post complaining about grammar or spelling will itself contain an even more egregious error.

Usually you do not want to be around someone who has their knickers in a twist, although it does sound intriguing, unfortunately.

Depends on the knickers. Depends on the twist. And, most of all, it depends on the "someone".

I am in the live and let live school, plus I am usually far too busy doing my thing to worry about what anyone else is doing, people have photographic gear that they don't know how to use, big deal.

What is more alarming is the number of people who own cars and don't know how to drive, cos that one may very well affect me or others detrimentally ;-)a

An interesting topic...

Its something which all of us have noticed at some point...
LOL at lighting the city/moon at night!

And since DSLR's have become relatively affordable now, the general mentality is that buying it will get you better pictures. A lot of people are not internet addicts so probably dont research anything. Put it in 'Auto' mode and say cheese.

You must be a young one...

I would say more and more people are exposed to the internet everyday, and you don't have to be an addict to use it. Also, the internet is hardly the only place to 'research'. Long before the internet there were libraries, bookstores, community groups, clubs, etc...

See.......I knew that given enough time, Roy and I would agree on something.
I read every night because if I didn't I'm pretty sure my slide into cognitive oblivion would be even quicker than it is now!

I learned recently that a rattlesnake is the only reptile in California that can be legally killed without a fishing license. You can use that in your online trivia club. ;)

Back OT (I guess), I prefer learning from books. The information is almost always far more concise, well-written, comprehensive, and with better pedagogy than any webpage or forum. The intertubes are sometimes great for advice on very specific issues, but not for learning a new subject.

Better yet, the information is the same each time you read it! ;)
