I'm getting a 40D soon with the 28-135mm IS, and I'm wondering what are good lens to pair with it. I have $700 to spend, and I definitely want something with a focal length wider than 28. Any ideas?

Could also go with the combination of 18-55 IS and 55-250 IS. "Why is it that children know how to forgive and forget...But adults forget how to forgive?"

I say you get your camera, use it...then decide what you need. I have had the 18-55 IS and the 28-135 in the past and chucked both of them because they were not the most useful for my purposes (though many others like them.) Everybody shoots differently and likes different styles, figure yours out first. For me I got a Tamron 17-50, Speedlite 580EX, and 50mm mk I. GOODLUCK and congrats! 7D - 24-70L 28mm 1.8

Jun 10, 2009 08:50 | #13 If you want to go cheap the Tamron 17-35 under $300. It has f2.8 up to about 22mm. I like it for an occassional lens. Very sharp.

jblaschke Goldmember More info | Jun 10, 2009 10:01 | #14 +1. The 10-22 pairs extremely well with the 28-135 in a kit. Those two lenses were almost made to go together, seems like. I've never missed a shot because of the focal length gap between them. If budget is a concern, look to the Sigma or Tokina offerings. An ultrawide zoom is a useful addition.
