50D Battery Charger Getting Really Hot

Has anyone else had this experience? The charger that came with my 50D gets really hot while charging. I'm charging the Canon battery that came with the camera, not a 3rd party one. I've had the camera a couple of months and the last 2 times I went to charge - the charger got uncomfortably hot. I'm afraid it will ruin the battery, or worse - catch fire...

It is possible that the battery itself is the culprit from failing and adding more resistance ( = hotter). It could very well be your charger though. I would pick up a new spare battery and see if you have the same results. You can never have too many batteries and 3rd party ones aren't too expensive.

***Since the setup is relatively new, I would simply ask for an exchange or call Canon and get them to replace it. It is in warranty after all.
