I purchased a new Canon 400D about 2.5 years ago. Since the day I purchased I have used a 1gb Sandisk Ultra Compact Flash.

Two days ago I finally upgraded to 4gb Extreme IV. I went to put the new compact flash in, turned the camera on and it has stopped working. Absolutely nothing, like there is no battery in the camera.

It was working 1 minute before I inserted the new compact flash and the battery charge was showing as full. I have since recharged the battery, tried the old flash card but still nothing at all, no life in the camera whatsoever.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Remove the card and check the pins inside the card slot.
It sounds like some pins got bent and could be shorted out causing the camera not to function.
There is a setting "shoot w/o card" - set to "on" and see if the camera will work.
If that works, there is a card problem.

Thank you for the quick reply.

Bent pins could definately be the problem I think.

Re. "Shoot without card", where do I find that setting? Can I use it given the camera will not even power up?

Second question....are bent pins fixable and is it expensive?

Thank you.
