I'm having a very hard time getting the 5D3's AF to work properly in these kinds of situation :(
This shot turned out alright, although at 100% it's not really perfect.

Have you experimented with any of the AF cases other than the standard? There are advanced cases suited for moving subjects under various conditions. It would help a little if you stopped the aperture down more, but I see that your ISO is already cranked. You could have sacrificed a little of the shutter speed, but not much.

I tried cases 3,4 and 5 I think. It probably comes down to practicing a lot.

From a few weeks back. The D500 has given me some great dog action shots on limited shooting time. I need to get out and shoot some more!
