Looks like your focus is on the outside door frame at the left? Too bad as it's a nice pose.

I struggle with getting my gear to focus on what I want. Maybe there's something wrong with my cameras AF? It doesn't really matter which lens is attached to it, I seem to get it wrong more often then right, lol.

Nice shot.
As for "Maybe there's something wrong with my cameras AF?", put a ruler at a 45-degree angle to the camera. F-stop wide open & focus on a # about half-way down it & then see what the image looks like.

OTOH, if you're focusing & then re-composing, there are DOF issues: Re-compose issues.
