I love the challenge of getting these. It's a lot easier with digital, not as much guessing as when I was using film. The 20D worked fine at -45 f, but the remote release cable froze solid after about five minutes, as did my butt. I’ve got a bunch more at www.theloves.smugmug.com (external link)

These and the others on your site are awsome, how often do you get to see sights like these?

I use the attached chart as a starting point for exposure, weather I am using film or digital. A tripod is a must. The majority of the pics on the smugmug site were taken with film, and scanned in. The film was either Kodak 400/800 or Fuji 400. The exposures ran from 5 to 30 seconds, depending on the lens used. For the 20D pics I used a Sigma 28 1.8 (for the speed)

I live in North Pole Alaska, just south of Fairbanks, and yes there is a Santa Clause House. It gets pretty cold here, with about 3 hours of sun, and a couple of hours of dusk/dawn during the middle of December

The best times seem to be during the solstices, and it’s usually not as cold as the middle of winter. The coldest I’ve seen/felt it was -68 f. The only thing you can wear that keeps you warm is a house.

Fantastic shots. Visited North Pole last year, neat place. Used photos from the Santa shop on my Christmas card. I'm very impressed by your photos.
