Hey everyone;

I know I should call Canon on this but I wont be able to for the next week thanks to my crazy schedule and I need to give her an answer in the next day or so.

A Friend has a 100mm F2 for sale but the USM is dead in it.

Does anyone have any idea how much this would cost to repair?
She wants $150 for the lens and its from 1996 I think but in otherwise perfect condition.

Thanks everyone.

Can't imagine its cheap and who knows what other problems there are with the lens. I would avoid spending cash on a dead lens that will cost you $150 to purchase and prob another $150 to repair. Seams like a bit of a gamble for something thats knocking on 14 years old.

Ask a friend to make the call for you. Only Canon knows the price. Anything else probably is only a guess.

I decided to pass on the lens.
Canon couldn't give me an estimate without first looking at the lens but they said upwards of $500 which of course is more than the lens is new.

I did a little looking around and it seemed that $400-500 was the going price for other USM swaps but I couldn't find a price for the 100mm f2.

Thanks Saint728;

I was just looking at getting another lens if it was cheap enough as I already have a 100mm Macro that I bought earlier this month. I figured $150 was a good deal, well that is until she sprung the lack of AF on me. :x

$150 is still very cheap even for a MF 100mm f2.

Still, I decided to pass on the lens, who knows if it was dropped and thats why the AF doesnt work any longer.
