Before the rebate B&H had the 24-70 listed @ $1190. After the $80 rebate the price of the lens should have been $1110, but as we know B&H raised their prices, effectively making the rebates null and void. Luckily I got my 24-70 a couple years ago and got it for about $980 from B&H.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I havn't purchased any new gear in about 6 months, and only heard about the price raises of Canon & Nikon, due to the economy and such...so I just assumed the 24-70's price was raised as well. Thanks for clearing it up!

I managed to get mine from Robert Imaging about 2 weeks ago for $1110 after $80 instant rebate. They have now raised to price up to $1269

What's the point of the rebates if prices are going to be raised to compensate. I guess there are people out there who really don't know they are paying almost the same prices.

$1001.45, June '07, after rebates. Original price was around $1150.
Here's a copy/paste of my invoice from Amazon. I saved $150 on this purchase, so I had to buy. It was a daily deal, which knocked off $75, plus a $75 instant rebate from Canon.

Probably not too helpful for you guys over the pond but here's the price history for the 24-70 in the UK over the last two years. I bought mine in January for £775. The best price today is £1025.

In fact, I bought my 1D3 at the end of December and four EF lenses in January, timed deliberately to beat the rises. The 1D3 is now up in (best) price by £700, £820 at the dealer I purchased from.

When you consider those figures, by purchasing when I did, rather than today, I got myself a "free" 24-70. It's bloody shocking.
