Had some more fun at the Old Ballyard the other day.
Here's Alexei Ramirez choppin' some wood. Used to be these shots were pretty cool, but anymore, with the maple bats, it seems I get one or more of these every game:
Exposure Time 1/6400 sec
Aperture f/2.8
ISO Equivalent 800
Here are two parts of a 4-6-3 double play:
Jermain Dye puts the ball in play:
![]() | HTTP response: NOT FOUND | MIME changed to 'image/gif' |
Focal Length 400 mm
Exposure Time 1/2500 sec
Aperture f/5
ISO Equivalent 640
Then 3 seconds later, thanks to the wonder of the focus preset button on my EF 400 f/2.8L IS lens, here's the DP turn at second base.
![]() | HTTP response: NOT FOUND | MIME changed to 'image/gif' |
Focal Length 400 mm
Exposure Time 1/1600 sec
Aperture f/5
ISO Equivalent 640
Yes, I shot this in Av (it was a partly cloudy day, with the sun darting in and out of the clouds) and I purposely stopped down to f/5 in anticipation of the play at second. I could have even stopped down a little further to get more of Ramirez within the DOF.
Speaking of the focus preset button, I am sometimes amazed how many people have this feature on their lens and don't use it. Often, in casual conversations (even with other pro's), they'll say something like "Oh, THAT's what that thing is for...why would you want to use that again?"
I am constantly coming up with new ways to take advantage of this little button.
