I sent my 40D to Irvine last month because the CF card pins broke. They replace it and send it back...with fingerprints all over the inside and a huge thumb print on my mirror. Seriously...WTF!?

I'm sorry, but this seems a bit petty. You sent in a working camera and they looked at it and confirmed that is was working. They even had the audacity to re-use your packing materials instead of throwing them away and wasting resources on new ones? The horror!! I think the OP has a valid complaint, but you are just bummed you couldn't scam your way into a free cleaning. That is not really a valid complaint in my mind.

No denying what you said but actually the motivation was to send it in to have them check the AF since I thought it was strange that my older technology 5D focused more accurately and more consistently. I never thought there was an issue prior to getting the 5D, and there may not be. Since the warranty was soon going to expire, I thought it prudent to get it to them before the expiry. I was too flipant with my explanation in my original post.

we're there for the ironman....how does that event impact the city? i already know how it impacts the rents ;).

ed rader

I have never been to that Ironman event up there, but have heard tales of it from friends that have been there. Getting around will be pain in a car on the race days.......as the roads close to the lake (that everyone uses) will be barricaded for the races. The other side streets then just get jammed with all the traffic. It is not a very large city so the impact is big.

We have an Ironman race here in Boise this weekend as well and the impact is minimal as the city is much larger.

I'm not sure if this is the kind of impact you are asking about....

Lakeshore drive is the main drag by Sanders Beach and that is part of the "run course"......so you are probably going to be walking around a lot. It's a small downtown core - that's doable.

Is the NJ Canon office better? I've read that the Irvine office is the worst, but I've not tried either one.

I've had several dealings with the Irvine office, and they've always been satisfactory.

I have had to send in all the Canon bodies I have bought since the 30D came out, somewhere between 1k-2k clicks. (30D, 40D, 50D, 1D3, 5D, 5D2)
I don't know what the deal is with new cameras having debris and oil/grease in them!!I send my stuff to Irvine, usually not too bad 2 week turn around. My 1D3 was gone for 6 weeks(with shipping time). I about lost my mind! I had sold both my 40D and 5D to get the 1D3 so I was without a body!! Irvine had to nerve to tell me it was my fault for not having a backup body and a 30day turn around was usual!! I am not real happy with Canon service??

I have been shooting since high school and never sent anything in till 3yrs ago. Now it seems every body I buy from Canon needs something!!
I jumped through the hoops to jion CPS a couple of months before they changed it to the new system. Turn around is much better(3 day I think)!! But I won't forget how they treated me as a consumer!!

There work has been good for me, just there customer service stinks if your not a CPS member!!
