Well I had problems with my brand new 5D and BG-E4; https://photography-on-the.net …hp?p=8169924&postcount=26

I then decided to send the body and grip back to Canon. I had one of those 3 day turnaround stickers left, (from registering my first 5D) but it was to Irvine. So I used it and sent in. After two weeks I get them back today and it says they replaced the shutter button on the BG-E4 (why would you waste time on repairing an accessory that retails for $200). Now the shutter button on the BG-E4 doesn't work at all. So two weeks wasted.

I called this evening and yelled a lot, but that really did me no good. All I got was a promise to send a Fed Ex label (to the New Jersey center this time, my choice). And the promise of another 7-10 day wait.

I've used the New Jersey facility before and the service was fast and professional (made a post about how good it was, https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=671200). Should have sent it to them in the first place. But I had the sticker and thought it would help.

Here it is now 2 hours after I called and still no label. Why does it take 24 hours to email something???

if it comes back still unfixed, ask them where they want to exchange your 3rd time unfixed (lemon law) DS mkIII for a brand new one.

This could be a completely "local" thing... SoCal "local" if you may... So here's my story and input from today's visit...

I've recently acquired a used 1Ds Mark 2... Test shooting at apertures that do not exceed f/5.6 since I received it... Images looked fantastic... So a few days ago I decided to run the dreaded f/16 test on a white piece of paper to see how the sensors were... Results below:

IMAGE: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v467/airbutchie/Various%20Images/Sensor-Cleaning-01.jpg

So I did my own "self-cleaning" try at the sensors (i've done so with my other bodies in the past with good results) using my Rocket Blower and swab tool... Not bad, but I did "smear" one of the dirt particles as you can see below:

IMAGE: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v467/airbutchie/Various%20Images/Sensor-Cleaning-02.jpg

The "smearing" was unacceptable to me, but I didn't want to try again with the results of making it worse... With that, I went to the CPS location in Irvine this morning to have it professionally cleaned... I walked into the office and gave them my 1Ds Mark 2 to have the sensors cleaned, get an actuation count, and do an internal cleaning of dust/dirt/particles if necessary... I paide $30 for the service and came back 1.5 hrs later... I came home to run the f/16 test again with the results below:

IMAGE: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v467/airbutchie/Various%20Images/Sensor-Cleaning-CPS_01.jpg

Completely satisfied with the results... Anyhoo, that's my contribution to this thread... I'm sorry to hear that others didn't have better results than I did... I honestly wish all of you did...

Canon don't really have to service us folks. They have a big enough following that even if everyone here switched to Nikon, it will just be a small dent to their entire sales.

The photography industry is not Canon's only business too.

They already have all of us bought their camera bodies. We have no choice but to buy their lens, short of the few that have substitutes. They know they make the best lenses and accessories, so it will only be to our disadvantage to boycott them in those fashion.

Our next best alternative isn't pretty. We either swap manufacturers entirely, but another canon camera, or suck it up.

I have noticed that by the time the order is entered it takes at least 24 hrs to receive your ticket and UPS label, it didn;r used to be like that but so far the NJ center has always come through for me

OMG, you all now have me more than a bit worried. My XSi was just received by the VA Canon facility to address a case of hot pixels.

yeah right :D.

it's been a bad service week for me. i went in for a root canal on monday, and immediately i became concerned when the doctor wasn't listening to me.

i told her i wasn't numb enough enough but she had to verify that with a drill bit to an exposed nerve. she gave me a few more shots hit the nerve again and then i could see she was getting frustrated.

she said i needed to relax but by this time my heart was hammering and i was starting to hyperventilate. she gave me more shots and then stuck the metal probe into the nerve and i screamed and about came out of the seat.

she then gave me a shot directly into the nerve and said the only way she could get me numb was too expose more nerve and then more shots into the nerve. i'll tell you, after the first shot in the nerve there was just no way i could voluntarily subject myself to that again.

i felt like i was being waterboarded and i honestly believe that the adrenalin was cancelling the affects of the painkiller.

she left me for about five minutes and i decided i had had it.

she came back and said, "there's going to be more pain but we're almost there." this was more than an hour into the procedure.

"i'm finished" i told her. "please but a filling in the tooth so i can leave."

so i'm going on vacation probably without my root canal and possibly with a sensor that's still throwing oil on my sensor.

yeah it was a bad service week :D!

I hope NJ is better. I'm on the East coast and my 5d MKII just bunged up with an err 30 code.

Should I join CPS before I send it in? I meet all the requirements.

I got my Canon 50D last month and my camera got a lot of dust inside my LCD left corner. I brought it to Jamesburg in New Jersey for service. They did not resolve my dust problem, only about 80% better. I have to bring my 50D back to them to redo the dust in mid August 2009. It is very frustrated. Hope they will fix it the second time.

Just a character I wrote on a white piece of paper to focus on for the dreaded f/16 "spots/dirt/dust" test... Nothing more...

Ah, I was gonna say if they used a marker and wrote on your sensor you should be a bit upset. :D

Ed, you have an incompetent dentist. Go find another one.

If you need a root canal, you should be going to an endodontist anyway. There's a reason why dentists go through four more years of school on top of their regular education. You don't go to a GP if you want to have your heart examined. Or to put it in photographic terms, you don't hire a landscape photographer who shoots Velvia with a 4x5 to do your wedding...unless you're getting married on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and you are happy with maybe a dozen photos, tops.

You would be surprised to know how much incompetence goes on in dentistry...a lot of providers go ahead and do procedures that are either not needed, or do it half-assed not out of malice but because they simply suck. You're okay for a few weeks--if you're lucky--and then you have to come back because the crown popped off, or the tooth gets infected because they didn't clean out the necrotic pulp completely. The situation is not quite as bad as photography--after all, random people with disposable income can't just suddenly decide to set up a dental office and take patients--but dental school ain't exactly the kind of barrier to entry as it used to be.

i did go to a endodontist that was referred by my dentist, who i think is great. BTW, i never did get the root canal and the tooth is completely pain and sensitiviity free. this tooth has been bothersome for at least 15 years, and now it appears to be okay.

maybe she killed the nerve or released the pressure. i dunno but i'm in no hurry to go back to the dentist, now.

on the next visit in a couple of months i'll have the tooth x-rayed again.

oh, i got my 1ds back and the sensor is clean, but not perfect.
