Looking to rent a lens for the Air and Water Show this year and was instrested in what guys that have shot at the AWS have used and maybe some sample shots.

I was thinking the 300F4 or the 4005.6 but thought about the 100-400 to be able to pull back for group shots ect. Any advice is appreciated.

Oh forgot what I have been using. In past years I have used my 70-200F4 with a 1.4xTC. I found my focus lagging with my old XTi and the 1.4 last year a few times, however my 40D seems to do alot better with it.

I don't know what you'll need there, but I've used the 100-400 & it's a pretty good lens.

I have shot there the last 4 years in a row, where do you plan on viewing from important question. I use the 500 on a 40D there and they come out nice years past had a 300Mmm to short even the 100-400 is too short in my opinion.
Sample shots from last years show 40D- 500MM and cropped some cant remember the numbers maybe 20 to 30 %:

I shot from North Avenue Beach at castaways last year and it worked pretty well. Any recommendations on location to shoot is welcome also.

Are you hand holding that 500mm? I was thinking the 4005.6 or 300f4 to be able to hand hold. Would be fun to rent the 500 though.

Thanks for your help.

Where did you shoot from?
Those are some nice shots.
I usually shoot from my sisters balcony that's south along the lakefront.
