Kata DR-465 or 467?

I have a question for Kata bag owners,

I'm very interested in either of these 2 camera bags, but I'm not sure about the actual sizes.

I've seen a couple of good review/pics of the DR-467 and it seems like a great bag, but how much smaller is the camera compartment of the 456?

I don't really need the laptop compartment for weight issues though, but it's always nice to have..

I want to use the bag for "light traveling" , so let's say 1 camera body without grip (5d) with the 24-70L (with hood) and 2 additional lenses such as a prime, like my 50L (with hood) and any other 77mm filter sized lens.
I'll use my 70-200L F4 IS lens and that will be longest lens, but I already know it will fit and the filter size is <77mm anyway.
Any additional stuff, like a flash, I could even store it in the upper compartment if I need to.

I'm thinking about the 465 version...but im not sure it my gear will fit properly?

Thanks in advance!

While I do not own either bags, I too am considering them. From what I gather, the camera compartment is essentially the size on both bags. I came to this conclusion by comparing the two bags dimensions on the kata web site.

Internal main compartmet for both is 13"(L) x 5.9" (W) x 7.5" (H)

Indeed..I have read that too, but I am confused 'cause alot of people are claiming the 465 is smaller... And from my own experience I can tell that the "official website dimensions" are often misleading.
Take a look at crumpler for example. The thick paddings make the bag alot smaller than they, according to the dimensions, should be.

Anyway in theory; three 77mm lenses+lenshood should fit in a 13"(L) bag right.

I have owned both and I'm about 95% sure that the actual camera compartment is the same size. The 467 is a bit more square in shape and is longer from front to back because of the added laptop area.

alright thanks man! ...I had the same thoughts, but I wasn't sure.
But you say you have owned both; why? do you still own one? or do you have another bag?

i have 465 and the camera compartment can fit my 40d with 24-105mm, 85mm and tokina 11-16mm. or 40d with 70-200mm f4 alone.
upper compartment can fit two 580ex.
i think the two small pockets on the outside is kind of useless to me. overall i like it a lot and i can easy to take out my camera with one hand. i can take some pics of my setup if you want :)

Hi Prinspaul, I own the 465 and it should more than accomodate your needs. I really like the bag for the protection it offers, and the fact it just looks like a normal backpack. The only thing I'm not keen on, is that I've missed out on some good impromptu shots because it has taken too long to get the camera out, as you pretty much have to take the bag off completely. For this reason I am considering buying one of the slingshot bags instead. If thats not a problem for you though, its a great bag. Hope this helps.

thanks alot for the replies guys!
Indeed, I'm not going to use the bag for 'fast shoots'...more like a walkaround bag for normal use plus the ability to store additional things like some food, personal stuff, etc. So I guess the bag is about perfect since it looks like a normal backpack and it can hold a small setup.

One question for timcult though, what do you exactly mean with "OR 40d with 70-200mm f4 ALONE" ..do you mean attached??
If you are able to store the 40D with 24-105L attached + 2 lenses, then why isn't that possible with the 70-200?
Pics are welcome by the way;) thanks!

the lower compartment is too small for any camera with the grip. it may take some time to take out or put back

I originally had the 465 but later got the 467 for the laptop compartment. The bottom compartment holds all of my gear plus rain cover, and battery charger. This leaves me with a huge top compartment for books, clothes, filters, cleaning cloths, usb cable, etc. Also, the water bottle pocket is great for carrying my compact tripod (manfrotto 735b) but it would be difficult to carry a bigger, heavier tripod.

Thanks alot for the pics...I really appreciate it:)
I understand what you mean with the 70-200 now, it seems like a great bag for a (non gripped;) right) dslr with 3 lenses.

Can you put the gripped 40D with 24-105 in the bag standing-up (wih the lens pointing down)?

40d +grip can stand up with 24-105 but for me it is harder to close the zipper with one hand.
