Honestly Bohdank, the 10-22/Crop vs 17-40/FF theres hardly any comparison. The Full frame+17-40 wins every time. Somebody did a direct comparison not to long ago and the Full Frame Advantage wins. You cannot compare the two except for field of view. When I had my 17-40, i had none of these "issues" which you speak of.

5D+17-40 FTW

If you read my comments again you will see that any winning I attribute is to the 5D and not the 17-40 so I am not saying anything different than you are. I actually tried the 10-22 on a full frame so there was a level playing field. The 10-22 is a better lens, albeit on a crop, imo, then the 17-40 is on a FF. I will stand by that. What holds the 10-22 back is that it throws a smaller inage circle so cannot be used well on a FF. The borders which I mentioned. The center 2/3rd's is better than the 17-40 on a FF, imo. This was clear without any pixel peeping.

I am not saying the 17-40 is crap. I have one and am satisfied with it although I haven't used it much, having bought it very recently. If they made the 10-22, with the same border performance as the 17-40, on a FF which isn't all that great, btw, I would sell the 17-40 and buy that one in a heartbeat.

I had the 10-22 and now the 17-40, so I can say, my experience is first hand.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

The 5D2+17-40L will eat the 50D and 10-22 alive and spit it out. No contest.

Not really. In fact I could say the opposite, at least if you are interested in arquitecture and indoors shooting.

I have had both, the 17-40 and the 10-22; and I have both an APS-C camera and a 5D. I cannot say any other thing that for the kind of photography I like to shoot 10-22 is the right choice over 17-40.

I recently purchased a 5D but never thought of putting a 17-40 on it (even if it's a good lens for other uses). My only considered options are a Nikkor 14-24 and/or a 24mm TS-E II prime. But never a lens (the 17-40) that would force me to correct distortion on every single shot and gives no more sharpness than the 10-22 on my APS camera. Canon wide angle zooms in FF are quite disappointing, I think going to primes here is the recommended option today (or adapt the Nikkor 14-24).

Just a sample image of Canon 350D + 10-22@10mm. No distortion correction needed, as usual on this lens even at 10mm.
