Hi,

any anyone tried using a 70-200 f/2.8 on a 450D?

i understand about the cropped factor of 1.6x on the 450D which makes it a 112-320? Just wondering will it be a good buy for that camera? or should i be looking at other lenses?

thanks

It's always a good lens for any canon body...so if you can afford it... go for it and you will not use anything else for the range. Get the IS version if you can.

thanks nonick,

im just concern that this lens on a 450D will become an intensively long zoom machine and not capturing as much of an angle on the full frame body.

I like your site...great pictures;) I'm ordering a Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 tomorrow and I feel a little better about it after seeing your work with that lens.

There are far more people with 70-200 than with a full frame body, which make perfect sense, nobody wants to spend more on a camera than on lenses.
As for being too long. the wider end is ideal for taking head and shoulders portraits, longer end is excellent for candid shots. By the way I see you have the wider end covered so your fears about gooing all long zooms seems unfounded

Not 450, but I had a 400D when I got the 70-200 - worked a treat. Can also add a 1.4 or 2x Tele to extend further and not lose much in IQ

+1

I didn't originally, regretted it, sold the non and bought the + IS. Should have done that in the first place and saved a lot of grief.
