Hello. Finally pulled the trigger and bought a new Imac. Also bought Lightroom 2. SO much to learn and I'm actually a bit overwhelmed. I'm going from using Photoshop CS version 8.0 and occasionally Photostudio. I don't do much processing of my pics. I crop, reduce noise, sharpen a bit and increase the contrast. My main question is about LR 2. In photoshop when I would reduce noise in the background for example (using Neat Image) I would then take the history brush and go over the areas that I DIDN'T want noise removal done on (a bird for example). With LR2 I can't figure out how to do this. Seems that the entire image gets noise removed and I don't want that. Also, not entirely sure how to size the pics for the web in LR2. I realize most of these questions are probably already answered on here. i googled such things and couldn't really find the answers I was looking for. I am nowhere near an expert on post-processing. In fact, I'm overwhelmed by it and want to do the few simple steps above for the most part. Hopefully someone can help and be as least technical as possible! Thank you very much. BC

Can't help you on the noise issue as I use noise ninja PS plug in for that however I know how to change the size.

Select the pictures you want->right click on one of selected pictures->put mouse over export->export->in pop up window scroll down some and there is resize option

I don't think in LR, you can reduce the noise selectively.

unfortunately, you cannot reduce the noise selectively in LR.

LR is great for batch editing photos to enhance photos. when it comes to detailed things such as skin processing, and stuff like that.... you might want to export them into PS.

Use the brush tool set it to Clarity or Sharpeness and brush over the area you want to correct after noise removal..

Or alternatively, use the brush with a little negative Clarity and/or Sharpness without doing global NR. Neither method will be as good as Neat Image.

Thanks everyone. Wow..what a huge disappointment. Keep watching this forum, you'll probably see Lightroom 2 for sale soon! Noise reduction/correction is one of the main things I do. I was trying to save $ and not buy PS. Guess I'll have to go back to using my ancient version of PS.

Can't say I've ever tried it but what about the Skin Smoothing brush tool in LR2, would that selectively control noise? It does smooth skin very well after all.

Have you checked to see about a plugin for LR for NR?

Get stand alone noise ninja for $34:

I would never go back to anything else after learning lightroom 2, it just makes processing so quick.

are you sure your exposures are correct?
i use the supper noise magnet - 50D (i'm playin here) and have print 16-20 - hard to find noise.

plus i use noiseware after LR2.
I like to do all my corrections in RAW first - then follow up w/ a standalone noiseware.

jusr my 2 cents....

Later,
_Mark
