My favorite subjects at the Memphis zoo are the big cats. I thought I'd post some of my favorite pics of them. All of these were taken with a Canon 30D and a Canon 200mm f/2.8L.

Great shots! I think the Memphis Zoo has a terrific tiger area.

#3 should be printed large, framed and hung on your wall. #3 is a Great image, there is one thing that draws my eye in the pic and that is the OOF paw, it is not enough that it would keep me from printing large and hanging it, though.
All wonderful shots, I really enjoyed them.
I live less than 100 miles from Memphis, but have not been to the zoo in probably 10 years. I am going to have to go up there to the zoo and spend a day real soon after seeing these. Thanks again Bob for sharing these awesome images with us.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments.

The reason the paw is OOF is that this was shot through a fence and I had to shoot with a very shallow DOF to make it disappear.

I agree that #3 is amazing but the pose in #1 makes me like that one even better. It looks like you are about to become lunch! Number 3 makes me think "awwwww" and #1 makes me think "holy....!"

I loved the pose too, but it's time to tell the reason for that pose. As you can tell by most of the other tiger images, their compound has all the water they could possbily want.

For some reason, the girl in the first pic was licking dew off the grass - you can see a drop of it on her chin. This is the first exhibit I visited that day and I checked back just before leaving, and she was still licking the grass.

I'll never understand females!:)

Edited to add a pic of her licking the dew - right in front of the moat. You can see her tongue in the grass.

That's just proof that a photo doesn't tell the whole story! I never would have guessed that's what's going on in a million years. I still love the photo though.

Nicely Done!
The first one is very unsettling, made me feel a bit of anxiety on first glance. Like that "OH S**T" feeling!

Thanks, Mark. If a photo is supposed to evoke some type of emotion in the viewer, then the first shot did it's job.
