Need help getting a tripod head~

Hi there. I am trying to upgrade my dad's tripod he gave me so that I can use it with my SLR. The tripod is over twenty years old, but in great condition. The head however is broke because my SLR was too much weight for it to hold.

So after having some free time on my hands, I looked into seeing if I could take off the head. Because its an older tripod there is no information on the brand online, but I eventually got the head off.

I have done research on the type of heads that i am interested in, but I am not sure if they will fit on the tripod. Obviously being the broke college student I am, I do not want to buy something that wont actually work. So I am wanting a definite answer on if this tripod would be compatible with other heads. I took some pictures of the top of the tripod where the head was attached so that you can see. Thanks for your help in advance!!

The diameter of this screw in the pictures is 1/4 an inch.

Yes it will. All tripod heads commonly available take either 1/4"-20 pitch or 3/8"-16 pitch threads, and there are inexpensive 1/4-20 to 3/8-16 adapters out there if the head takes larger than the tripod offers.
