Instead of venting about my 70-200 f/2.8 I wanted to say that after I sent it in to Sigma, I got it back and it is extremely sharp. I am VERY impressed with it even wide open at 200mm, it's SO sharp. So I would recommend getting one of these, even after dealing with Sigma and having it soft out of the box :)

Gear
Gripped Canon 40d, 20d,17-35mm f/2.8, Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8, 430 EX, and a bunch of cards and other stuff. I'm 16 and loving it!

Did you have to send them your body? Or just the lens? Curios as to how they get the focus spot on if you dont send them your body as each one is slightly different.

Hmm. At 200 for me wide open, it's a bit soft.

I'm thinking of considering sending it in to Gentec here in the city.
As Jeffro250 asked did you have to send in your body?

Can you describe the process of sending it in to sigma a little bit.

Thanks

No, I did not send the body I just sent a note saying that it had front focusing problems and told them to adjust it to a 40d. I assume the have a 40d that they would set it too. I sent it straight to the CRIS center in Arizona. Alot of people send it to the one in NY, but thats not really their repair center. :)

I guess my big question is...if you send them the body and you have say, a different lens that is spot on sharpness wise, is it going to screw up the calibration for the other lens thats perfect when they adjust it for the Sigma?

Well I hadn't thought of that, but if you did send the body, yes, it probably would mess it up, but hopefully they would adjust the LENS and not the body. If they adjusted the body, I would not be a happy camper. :) I guess I mite have gotten lucky, as to the part of them getting it spot on.
