I am not much of a real birder but was lucky enough to be invited by Kevin and Ann to shoot some burrowing owls. They are charming creatures and not very big. We were shooting a nesting pair with several fledglings. The parents would scold us soundly (especially the female) then when they got used to our presence they started bringing food back to the burrow to feed their critters.
I was using my 40D and either my 70-300 DO or my wife's 100-400 L, sometimes with a Kenko 1.4X TC The wife used Kevin's 100-400 L and soon discovered that his lens is much sharper than hers. Hers is now at the canon service center ;)
Yes they are a bit soft but here they are any way. Hope you enjoy them.

You put the left leg in, you put the left leg out...............

Bless the recently fallen and their family and friends.
I have a Cannon with me at all times. You can't take the shot if you don't have something with which to shoot.

OMG, Burrowing Owls are funny enough, but when you catch them doing the hokey-pokey, that's over the TOP!

Excellent shots Skip!

Thanks for all comments guys. Yes they are way too cute.

Good news on the lens front, it should arrive tomorrow from the Canon service center. Can't wait to see the improvement (trying to maintain a positive attitude).

Great series Skip. I especially like #2. Excellent.

Hope the lens repair does the trick.

You know I've never been very happy with my 100-400 and this experience of yours makes me think I should send mine in for a check...

Be sure and let us know the results.
