Need suggestions: Do I need noise reduction and sharpening software? Currently, I have Lightroom, PS CS4 and Onone software. I'm only using LR in noise and sharpening but not so happy with it.

My goal: To make large prints like the professionals do. I will be using Fractals 6 Pro to make large print.

Can you suggest any software for noise reduction and sharpening? I am thinking of Noise Ninja. Also, i read from the forum that most of you use noise reduction at the beginning of the process, how about the sharpening?

So many questions, looks like you need a masters degree in processing your images:lol:
But seriously guys, i need your input.

I use noise ninja almost every time I need to reduce noise in a photo. I choose it while ago when I was in need of a noise reduction software and most people suggested it. I think there are a few more in the market that you'd have to try out. But for me, NN works beautifully.

As for sharpening, I use the good old unsharp mask in PS. I did buy Nik Software's Sharpener Pro, but I find 90% of the time, the free PS thing works fine.

Just saw this right now: If you buy sharpener pro, you get dfine free. http://www.niksoftware.com …glepurchase/SHP3-dr.shtml (external link)

Search around and use the trials. I can't comment on dfine as I don't use it, but Noise Ninja provides a TON of control over your noise. And it works.

Also, I always denoise the image first before working on it properly. I usually sharpen in the end (not sure how the pros do it ... never really thought about looking this up).

Warning: I am an extreme amature and thus my critique may be extremely flawed.

Im very happy with Noise Ninja too :)
There are many plugins around, but i took advices from others to use Noise Ninja instead and i think NN does what it promises.
Looks like it is leading one plugin for noise reduction.
I personally do not see a need to search something better (just my opinion)

Well for Noise reduction I use Noiseware... you can try all 4 of the major brands for 30 days and make a decision.

For sharpening this tool from Fred Miranda
http://www.fredmiranda.com/CSpro/ (external link)

Is the best option I have found and it's less than $20.
I have tried a couple of others for double the money and they
were no better. You can use CSPro with the quick default
or go into tweaks that will allow you to make subtle changes.

It's well worth the money.
