Technology, it nevers takes a breather. In 6 months its out dated. Some days I wish I was back on orchards rather than been in a server room. This years been hell with a complete rebuild and Virtualising everything. Add to that our 46 new PCs had network issues so they have had to be swapped out with a different intel board and Ive spent 2 weeks reinstalling and configuring them all AGAIN !
Had to pay my kids just so I could go to work and for them to behave :(

Oh this may intrest some landscapers

Expose for land and then expose for sea then blend and make it look like medium format shot. I will try at some point.

Reading Visual Studio 2008 books, working out if I (A) want to learn to program (B) work out if I have the skill set to learn to program.

My biggest problem in life is am a "jack" and never a "master" of anything. Add to that in a "hands on person" not a "developer or creative thinker"

Heck just look at my photography .... Models, Motorsport, Landscapes yet Ive never really mastered anything. My 10 year plans have gone out the door. So disalusioned about any photography future now my creative gene pool is all dry (not that it was a big pool to start), the fire and passion is now a pile of ashes.

Maybe its just not my time yet, sometimes you have to put things down and walk away. Have very much done that with the South Is. Just not the right time.

I need a new photography goal. Get me out of the rut im in

To do well at programming you need experience (which you could obtain but you'd start at 40k which is a bit of a joke where you are in life now) and skill matters a lot.

The programming world imo is simple in the sense that its just about skill and experience, if you want to get in start somewhere easy like PHP/Web stuff or .NET/ASP where you can forgo both skill and experience a little more vs C++ or the likes.

Just my two cents being involved with programmers on a daily basis (im a unix/win/network eng.).

My degree is in software engineer, and i'm an IT contractor with plenty 10+ years experience (plus the5+ years now in weddings). Starting later in life gives you a disadvantage, as it's not just programming you have to learn, it's the systems around them, api's, how projects work, ide's (development environments), etc. The programming is the easy part, integration is the challenge. But if you want to do it, don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it. Open source or websites demo'ing what you can do would be great on a CV. Feel free to PM me, this is one area I can talk about with a fair bit of experience behind me (I used to interview developers).

I dont want to change jobs, its more just lerning something different. Biggest issues is I have no real need to learn, I just want to see if I can create something

In that case try PHP and create yourself an interactive website with PHP/MySQL. Use the WAMP package (Windows Apache Mysql Php) to get the environment running quickly, and Netbeans for PHP as your development environment.

Hey Tony -- give yourself a break! Almost everyone on here knows that you had and have the skill -- IMO (could be wrong) you have just never given yourself a break, credit, and received deserved praise for your photos.

And remember, from ashes the Phoenix rose... so don't sell your stuff unless you truly think that all that work you put into it was a waste of your time.

Heck, you've been out there more than I and you have produced more photos worthy of being hung in someone's home... so, as the ad says, Have a break, have a KitKat:p

Wow that's FAST. To paint my house I have to get it back to bare wood, as it needs to be sealed primed then painted, so it takes a couple of hours per square meter in prep time.

I agree with what John says.
As for house painting, Mine would take many hours as it is very rough plaster & I would need to rool a sheep over it.
