I've heard Raro is only ok, and yeah most islands won't have much to do. We really like the idea of a tropical island though :)

In geek news I picked up one of these the other day to stream 720P to the projector. Just wanted something that would play all the 720p formats (mkv, avi etc) and support DTS and 5.1, this thing does it all and does a great job a it! Streams from network shares and also reads any external drive you plug into it. Well impressed with the image and audio quality. For the extra geeky there is custom modified firmware that can make it do a few fancy things...

Just back from a week in Vanuatu!!! :D

tim wrote in post #10573164 (external link)
My gf and I are planning on going to a tropical island in September... any suggestions about where's good? We want nice weather, somewhere relaxing, and if possible places where activities or something to do is available. Price isn't the most important factor, within reason.

We're thinking Fiji, Tahiti, somewhere like that. I've been to Fiji twice and the Islands are great, but there's sod all to do on most of them. I'm happy reading books and drinking cocktails mostly, but that gets boring after a month or so ;)

Vanuatu has all the trappings of a good tropical island, along with plenty of excellent cuisine courtesy of it's French heritage.
Usual things to do -dive/snorkel, jet ski, cruises. There is not a single person in Vanuatu that can organise any thing to start on time though!

We stayed here - traditional rather than luxurious, thatched roof, no TV in room etc but very pleasant none the less

Will post some piccies at some stage

Vanuatu's kid free? How?! Looks like it's winter/wet season now until November, how was the weather?

Yeah just the resort was kid-free. The stinky little blighters still manage to get into the rest of the country.

Rainy season starts in November. Summer up there is hot and humid. Now is the time to go.

We were there 7 days, rained 2, fine 5 days, temp 26-28 degrees. Plenty of sun, beach time and cocktails.

Air conditioning is an absolute must for me... I just can't sleep when it's really warm.

Nice :)

I'm trying to wind down and get things out the door ready for our holiday in Samoa beginning of August... Its manic in our neck of the woods.. our week away is probably the only rest we'll get lol

Sounds really nice.
Things are totally hectic here at the moment too. I still have 2 weddings photos to process, ans we have end of school year etc.
In 1 1/2 weeks my Mum is coming over from N.Z. so I have taken 2 weeks holiday for when she is here. Not sure what we are going to do yet, but it will be my first holiday this year... appart from the time I was off work with my shoulder.

I'm not a fan of aircon. I love to hate it , or hate to love it.
Without it you acclimatise to the heat better & are less prone to colds etc. With it you sleep better but when you go out the door you cook & it trys the air.

35 degrees here today. Wish we had aircon in the office.

Yeah i was using my 360, but to send divx to it I needed to run tversity and the end stream didn't support 5.1 or dts sound etc ... After seeing my mates PS3 I am sure this is handled the same way.

Yeah I feel the same with aircon...
Funny, when I think of Germany I don't think of those kind of temps at all!
