I'm not a fan of aircon. I love to hate it , or hate to love it.
Without it you acclimatise to the heat better & are less prone to colds etc. With it you sleep better but when you go out the door you cook & it trys the air.

35 degrees here today. Wish we had aircon in the office.

The great thing about air con is you can turn it off if you don't like it :p I liked having it on in my room then walking out into the heat of the day, but the hot dampness in the tropics at night is a bit much.

I have air con in the office, and in the car, and at home. Only time i'm not air conditioned as at badminton.

In geek news I picked up one of these the other day to stream 720P to the projector. Just wanted something that would play all the 720p formats (mkv, avi etc) and support DTS and 5.1, this thing does it all and does a great job a it! Streams from network shares and also reads any external drive you plug into it. Well impressed with the image and audio quality. For the extra geeky there is custom modified firmware that can make it do a few fancy things...

Yep, only heard good things about those. Who needs an HTPC when that's around?

Sancho wrote in post #10575392 (external link)
Yeah i was using my 360, but to send divx to it I needed to run tversity and the end stream didn't support 5.1 or dts sound etc ... After seeing my mates PS3 I am sure this is handled the same way.

Nah, PS3 supports 5.1 output, plays back divx no problems. You just have to read up on how to set it up correctly, and a lot depends on what you're feeding the sound into.

Holy friggin sh!t !
I just got a quote for my camera which isn't focusing properly.
Having just spent 200 euro where they replaced the electronics in the camera, now they are saying it is my 24-70 and the distance setting needs to be replaced for 357.87 Euro !!!!!!!!!!!! (NZ$ 640).
Last time I sent the camera in without the lens.
I think the guarantee ran out last month!... I'll check that tonight.

In NZ consumer laws (if it's a consumer device) cover you outside the warranty period. Hope they do there too.

Damn, whats Germany's consumer law like?

If it happened here Canon would have one hell of a hard time getting away with charging extra, and they definitely wouldn't be able to make you pay if the guarantee has only just expired. Its pretty meaningless on something like a lens with a very high purchase cost and very long expected usable life.

Gotta love the Consumer Guarantee's act

So long and thanks for all the flash

So it plays divx over a server and outputs 5.1 if the divx has it? 360 can output 5.1 divx but only if its via an HDD, not over a network... yet. But yeah, very happy with the wee wdtv, was stunned at the size of it too, just about fits in my pocket :)

If it's that close out or warranty do you have a consumers act there? should be covered under that if you push for it...

edit: as others have already pointed out :)

Talking of camera problems...
My 40d stopped working today. Try and take a photo and it pops up with err 1 (Clean the contacts, lens not communicating with camera). Cleaned the contacts multiple times and removing batteries, no luck. However I swapped lens's with a mate who has the same camera and lens combo. My lens worked on his camera, his lens worked on my camera. And my 50mm still works on it. hmmmm.... ideas?

edit: Scratch that, put in a spare battery and its working again. Still very weird though....

hmm, that's weird. Easy fix though, keep swapped lenses:)

How are you all? I feel a little out of touch, have dropped in to the site to see whats going on in other areas but I've been uber busy since Sept/Oct last year. Not much news apart from that really. Great to drop in and see some more serious camera/photography chatter though:)

No, theyx don't have consumer laws like that here. Basically when warrenty expores then its your problem.
I just checked when I bought the lens. 01.03.08 so 4 months out of warrenty, however I have been having the problem for a while.. maybe if I can prove that they will be nice. I'll try to talk to someone this afternoon if I have time.

Thats all I've been doing, either shooting or processing, not complaining, loving it! Not sure I can get much time out over the next few months, looks like I'll be just catching up then into the next. Am going to try and squeeze a few personal shoots in between there somewhere, only a few hours here and there though, takes too much of my spare time to process them.

I just got an email offering me CPS Gold membership for free for a year if I apply in the next couple of weeks. I guess i'll do it, then i'll close my membership once all my gear's sold. Good that they're looking after existing customers though.
