Exactly, from a marketing point of view it's perfect, and when you consider SLR tech is becoming more available to the everyman, and it's easier to use, the way its targetted is perfect, or close at least. 99% of people actuallt buying an SLR won't even know what a sync socket is let alone ever have cause for using one.
And as for the narrow DOF not making good photos, true, as a stand alone point it doesn't, but try taking it off me, and I'll kick off. I personally find it exceptionally useful, and rarely shoot a close portrait at anything grater than f/2.8 on FF obviously.

My initial response to the 60D was a WTF have they done!
Then you realise they have been very clever. It looks like they are creating to distinct line, a consumer line (xxxD and xxD) and a pro line XD. Each line which will have two levels of body, a light weight basic one and a more comprehensive higher end one.
Build quality and performance, as well as cost will be the two basic things that distinguish the two lines.
People will make a lot of noise about the SD card, but really, is that big a deal? SD cards are more common in electronic devices and cheap enough to buy.
Likewise with the PC Sync, how many people actually use it any more?
Radio triggers are becoming cheaper and more common and nearly all of them mount in the hot shoe. The PC sync simply isn't needed any more.
I don't however like the limited control layout, that to me looks like a clear and determined attempt to dumb down the camera. But, then I'm no longer in it's target market.
I do like the proper flip out LCD and really wish the 5D2 had one.

That's one reason I liked crop bodies, more DOF. I might get a crop body some time, for the 70-200 at receptions.
I hear Canon make some really nice crop bodies with excellent glass that is very sharp when stopped down for that extra DOF.
