So I've been really busy at work, and most of my remaining free time is now taken up with softball or yard work. Not much time for photography these days. However, with all the yard work and being out in the yard I've noticed that my pileated woodpeckers have become a lot tamer. I can be sitting outside fairly close to the feeders and they will come down no problem. Used to be that if I even thought about being outside, they'd be gone. Yesterday I carved out some time to sit and wait with my camera. They have this one spot on the tree by the feeders, where they like to perch before flying over to the feeder, so all I had to do was wait. My poor oak tree is really taking a beating! I'm hoping they'll be bringing the babies by soon.

I've missed you great work Liz. Beautiful shot, he's been busy hammerin'.

I've been slack on yard work(spending too many weekend mornings at the marsh/beach), now I'm paying the price doing catch up in the heat.

Thanks folks! It is fun seeing them. I've noticed that recently they've become very quiet when coming to the feeder, so I'm wondering if they've got fledglings around nearby. Prior to this week, they'd always announce their presence in the usual boisterous pileated woodpecker way. So I'm definitely going to keep my eye out for the young ones!
