Hi Pauline, your shots arn`t bad at all for 280m on a mk3.....at gigrin I had 700mm with them flying close enough to fill the frame so no cropping on most.
As to a wimberley........

For long lenses a Gimbal type head is pretty much essential if you`ve got it on a tripod trying to use the lens on a ball head or three way pan and tilt is nigh on impossible.

Mark, thank you for enlightening me on that quite expensive tool. Mind it would be very helpful for so many other action shots I am sure. Something to put on my xmas list I think.
