The E-P1 is great.. it just begs to be taken out, whereas with a SLR you usually have to think about it. It has definitely taken over the P&S's duties and is encroaching a little on what I would usually pull out the XSI for.

Thanks Yohan, golemite, and dfatty. I think you may have confirmed for me that I can't pick the m4/3 to be my only camera, sadly. At least not yet. Maybe when the system matures a little. I suppose I could justify using the body for HD video. If you add up the price of an HD camcorder + a nice compact, the pricetag of the GF1 is not so bad!

This is the future of compacts... Once they add a viewfinder and a flash I will buy one.

That's my situation too. Great little camera, very convenient and gets a lot of use because of that, and HD video is a great bonus. The 5D, 40D and lenses aren't going away anytime soon though, and probably never will (just replaced by other DSLRs and lenses :)) unless they figure out how to make contrast detect AF just as fast as phase detect AF.

Have you seen the GF1? It has accessory EVF and a built in pop up flash.

it's jacket pocketable if you have a largish jacket IMO. but the big thing is the weight... the GF1 is a lot lighter, and won't feel as much of a drag in comparison.

Jacket pocket (as in cold weather jacket, not dinner jacket) with pancake lens is definitely doable. Cargo pants pocket too. As for GF1 being a lot lighter, maybe subjectively for some people. Per specs though there's not a massive difference: 12.5 oz vs. 11.1 oz. After you stick the same lens on both the overall impact of that weight difference becomes even smaller.

That was part of my internal rationalization, I was thinking of getting a body that can shoot video, and I also was thinking about getting a P&S - the E-P1 is cheaper than a 5Dmk2 and G11 so I'm ahead of the game, lol.

GF1 is certainly attractive, and the buzz is that the Panny AF is faster. But I'm happy with the E-P1, and really value the in-body IS. The IS will be usable with a huge number of manual focus lenses, and the in-body IS also lets Olympus offer smaller lenses than Panny, size being my main reason for getting the Pen.

I can't remember where I read it, but IIRC I saw something claiming that the GF1's high ISO isn't as good as the Pen's. Here's one link that mentions it, if I find anything more detailed I'll add a link.

The Leica appears to have what I want, except for the cost lol, was hoping Canon could get into this-waiting.

I guess I'm picky but I want the viewfinder built in.

Well I'll say that I think the add on viewfinders look fragile, would catch on something as you tried to drag it out of your jacket or cargo pocket, that does bother me. Maybe it's just best to get an M9 and learn to do the hyperfocal style of shooting.

Honest smonished, I'm going to be looking really close at the image quality of the new G11, I love the way I got so used to and fast with the G9 but wanted even better image quality.

At least I have choices, including the little Leica which I'm fainting at the price but if it were half of that I'd probably be on the waiting list, yeah, I've wanted a Leica my whole life.

Just think, if we REALLY wanted a Leica over such a long period of time, we would have saved up for it. Just my thoughts...

Could you just imagine if canon released a digital rangefinder that allowed both their EOS AF lens line-up and FD lenses to be used with an adapter. :-D

One can only wish. ;)

Is their any websites that have any good info explaining which lenses and adapters can be used with the E-P1? Specifically concerning older manual focus lenses. Or even the GF1.
