This is my first post on this website. Well actually this is my first post of any picture I've taken with my new Canon EOS 50D.
Feedback is appreciated.

This is just a photo I snapped while I was walking a trail in Tampa. I love how the sunspots turned out.

seems like you shot directly looking into the sun, it's something that's not recommended since the bright sun will wash out all other elements of the picture ... it also introduces lens flares (the red/orange rings you see towards the right)

please keep posting on the forum, and i'm sure in no time you'll become a pro :)

good advice from ppm

if it wasnt for the sun behind the subject, i would say it has a good composition and the right amount of negative space above and around it :)

Favourite loadout currently: Canon 7D mkI + 50mm f/1.4
Next desired loadout: Canon 5D mkII + 85mm f/1.2

What can you capture with the click of a button?

> The lens flare kills it for me. My eye is drawn right to it.
> There is no detail in the sky. It As the old saying goes..."The entire frame makes the image."
> I also think the "rule of thirds" comes in to play here. The tree is almost dead center.
So to improve this comp:
> Shoot when the sun is behind you (magic hour would be a good time)
> Wait for a day that offers interesting clouds (or crop out the sky).
> Either position the camera so the tree is on one side or the other of the frame or if you want to center it, crop the image so it is square.

Don't get discouraged. We are all learning and this forum is a great source to learn from.
