Anyone knows whether there are significant IQ differences between the Kenko, Tamron and Canon 1.4X teleconverters? I know there are differences in the range of lenses that they can be paired with, but here I am more concerned about the IQ of the images produced with them, all else being equal. Thanks in advance!

Did you see the TC sticky thread at the top of this page? If you compare the Kenko Pro, Tamron SP, Sigma DG and Canon TCs, you will find very little difference in IQ. Big difference in price and what lenses they fit though.

Thanks. I did see the Tamron/Canon comparison using the 300mm in the sticky. I would be interested to know if someone has made a similar comparison with the Kenko.

I did a comparison of the Canon 1.4-II and the Kenko Pro DG 1.4, with a Canon 70-200 f/4L on a 20D a long time ago. I shot a test pattern that I had fabricated using symbol fonts built into Microsoft Word, at various text sizes (example)...

IMAGE: http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i63/wiltonw/filterfullcompare.jpg

The outcome was that the Canon 1.4x was a tiny bit better in the Center of frame, the Kenko was a tiny bit better at the edges of frame.

You need to give me OK to edit your image and repost! Keep POTN alive and well with member support https://photography-on-the.net/forum/donate.php

Cheers! Thanks a lot for this. :)
