My 2 cents would be to try to find the ones that have the matte black coating on the inside. Many of them you'll find will be reflective on the inside of the hood, which kinda defeats the purpose.

FS: 85 1.8 w/hood - $300!!!
1D Mark II - This is my Canon. There are many others like it, but this one is mine.

I get my hoods from etefore out of Hong Kong via Ebay. Cheap prices, fast shipping and the hoods have performed up to expectations.

I bought one for my 10-22 It says "for Canon" or something like that. It fits perfect. the only difference is no felt lining on the inside and if you really study it, it's a little "rough". Not as perfect as the Canon made ones. BUT can you beat $10? I couldn't justify $40.

I would stay away from the rubber made ones.

i bought an 18-200 lens that came with one of those fake e-bay hoods and the gripe i have about it is that it doesn't mount on the lens reversed. otherwise it's perfectly fine..

I've bought 2 from a Hong Kong company, one for the 50 1.4 and one for my 100 2.8 Macro. Both fit perfectly and have a matte black finish inside.. each cost $5. Could not be happier.

The black felt on the inside is known as flocking. Yes get one with this feature.

I have a generic hood on my 100 2.8 Macro. It isn't felt lined like OEM, it's matte black on the inside. It doesn't *click* into position as nicely as Canon hoods and it's also a little sturdier. The "softer" Canon hoods would act as a better bumper in that they'd absorb impact a little better if you bump it into something. If these things wont bother you and the overall shape and size of the generic hood is the same as OEM, go for it.

Some are better than others. They're perfectly fine, though! Can't beat the price. Try and get a bayonet mount one. I got a screw on one once, and I wish I didn't.

I bought one once and never will again. It was a generic one for the 28-135 and when mounted, its not in the proper position. It wasn't made right and when fully locked on, its still about a 16th of a turn from being correct. It works fine, but drives me nuts for some reason.

I got a copy of the EW-83J for my 17-55 f/2.8 for $8 including shipping. It fits fine. No teddy bear fur inside, just flat black paint, but it doesn't reflect so no problem.

I had a knockoff for the 10-22 and have one for the 85/1.8

They all fit perfectly, are well made and convinced me never to buy a Canon hood in the furure, if I ever need to buy a hood, again.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.
