love the IQ, but it is factors higher in noise compared to the Canon. I mean, even the lowly 18-55 kit lens is quieter.

just wondering if all of them are like this:confused:

all this noise i hear about has never bothered me. never once i have used the lens and even thought of the noise. is it louder than, say, my 85/1.8...yes. but never so much that i even think about the noise.

When I had the Tamron, the noise only surprised me when I first tested it.
After that, the noise was welcoming because it told me it was working. haha

If it bothers you that much, you can go with the EF-S 17-55 IS with quite USM... but it is worth it? Maybe, maybe not. It's for you to decide.

If you shoot with an XTI, then the shutter/mirror slap is much much more noisier in my opinion. It gets even worse when you fire off a burst. If you had a 40D/50D then, yeah, the Tamron will be noisier if it has to do a full rack back and forth.

But, I've got an older Olympus SLR and it AF motor you could hear too and it didn't bother me either.

Peter

If were comparing shutter noise, my 20d and a 1d that i borrowed are much louder than the xTi. The 1d is a Gatling Gun of DSLRS.
*And good luck catching a Tamron 17-50 2.8 for sale on here. Im having the worst time finding one.
