love the IQ, but it is factors higher in noise compared to the Canon. I mean, even the lowly 18-55 kit lens is quieter.

It gets even worse when you fire off a burst. If you had a 40D/50D then, yeah, the Tamron will be noisier if it has to do a full rack back and forth. Regards,
