ok i probably know the answer but just to check

I just ordered cybersyncs and currently have the 580exII. I know I can sync to the 580exII via cable. I am looking for another flash to use and the 540ez is going for really cheap nowadays. the question is if i buy a zebra thingy to sync the 540ez to the cybersync receiver it should work in manual flash right. I ask this because it seems like a no brainer to use as a cheap second strobe.

??? Your title says 430EZ. Which flash are you asking about?
540EZ works great. I used two of them with Skyports.

430EZ does not have a way to defeat (turn off) the auto sleep function so a minute of inactivity will cause it to go to sleep and you have to push the test button to wake it up. It could be a real bummer if you have it any distance from the camera.

Hope this helps.
Mike

Example of 540EZ with flashzebra hot shoe adapter and Skyport receiver.
